POSITION SUMMARY:The DCBID is the hub of market research for Downtown Los Angeles. This position is responsible for compiling and producing research that is instrumental in recruiting investment, new businesses, and residents to Downtown LA. The position focuses on providing market research to the Economic Development and Marketing teams as well as a wide variety of prospective new businesses including office, retail and restaurant tenants; commercial and housing developers; and entertainment and cultural users.  Responsibilities also include executing business retention strategies, programs, and publications.


  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10 years relevant experience
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Excellent writing, analytical, communication, and verbal presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including time management
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently without guidance


  • Research: Proactively gather and analyze market data. Follow current methods and procedures for obtaining data; develop new techniques for conducting market research in a cost-effective manner; develop and maintain relationships with brokerage firms and researchers; apply qualitative and quantitative techniques to interpret the data and produce user-friendly reports.  Direct, plan, develop, evaluate and implement economic development research programs, policies, procedures, and services.Update office and residential comps, interpret data and produce charts for distribution to contacts, brokerage community, investors, and research firms.
  • Publications & Studies: Manage all aspects of special studies (demographic study, economic impact, etc.) including data, development, release, press conference, and strategic distribution.
  • Marketing Collateral: Manage Economic Development’s marketing collateral and maps, from content development to production. Manage sales kit contents, ensuring accuracy and relevancy of information. Compile relevant news articles. Produce Quarterly Reports including The Market Report, Projects in the Pipeline one sheet, 7th Street one sheet, and other materials as needed for distribution.  Develop new Economic Development marketing tools and advertising programs.
  • Website: Manage Economic Development’s content on Maintain current information, fact sheets, and reports. Frequently test the website’s interactivity with its databases and work with the vendor to resolve issues.
  • Online Interactive Map: Update data and refine user interface on online interactive map as needed. Work with an outside vendor to execute content and design changes in a timely manner.
  • Databases & Communications: Build databases such as for retail, office and parking, so they can be effectively used by staff.Maintain databases to provide comprehensive information and reports to end-users. Work with IT Manager to ensure that the Property Owner database is current and, in conjunction with other BID departments, create a communications program for property owners.
  • Event Planning Logistics: Manage special events/tours and execute directives of Director. This includes producing collateral, assembling and maintaining guest lists, selecting panelists or speakers and showcase. Assist in approximately 4 special events per year.
  • Presentations: Update President & CEO's Presentations and reference binder on a frequent basis. Accompany President & CEO, if necessary, to speaking engagement.  Be prepared to answer market questions.
  • Respond to daily requests from a variety of sources, including research firms, reporters, management companies, investors, developers, brokers, etc.
  • Assist with department meetings.
  • Assist in the execution of business retention strategies and programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee budget controls and expenditures for the research function of the Economic Development department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
