This river city is California’s state capital, the seventh largest world economy, and a growing metropolitan region in the country. It is the largest city in the six county region, serving a population close to 500,000 in the city limits and more than two million in the metropolitan service area.
The Urban Design Manager will work on leading edge and transformative projects such as Township 9, Downtown Railyards, Curtis Park Railyards, and Northwest Landpark. There is tremendous growth potential throughout the city and significant infill planning projects/areas waiting for new development that will have a lasting impact on the inner city. The Urban Design Manager will have an active hand in working in a team oriented environment to facilitate the development of the multiple projects within these master planned areas.
The Urban Design Manager will have oversight of the City’s Design Review Program and the Historical Preservation Unit. The position plays a key role in the City’s planning, updating of the City’s General Plan, and assisting the development of new and unique commercial, residential and mixed use projects throughout the city. Reporting to the Planning Division Manager, the Urban Design Manager will also work with the Planning and Design Commission. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with an excellent working knowledge of both design and preservation and will possess excellent public relations skills. The selected candidate will be able to successfully form partnerships with community groups in order to resolve differences and disputes on design and preservation issues.
