Stunning Images Capture Sandy's Assault on NYC

In case you missed it, The Atlantic Cities has compiled some of the most arresting photos of Hurricane Sandy's historic visit to Manhattan, as reported on social media and elsewhere Monday evening.

Subway tunnels flooded, construction cranes buckled, much of Lower Manhattan went dark. Superstorm Sandy surely lived up to advanced billing in her assault on Manhattan. While more astonishing photos are sure to surface this morning, these were the iconic images making the rounds on Monday evening, as the city felt the full brunt of the storm surge.
