Skaters Vs. The Dead

No, it's not a teen zombie movie -- a skate park planned for Miami is causing an uproar because of its proposed location, adjacent to the historic Miami Cemetery.
Andrew Viglucci reports:
"Appalled family members and preservationists who have labored for years to improve the once-neglected, city-run cemetery have begun going public with their opposition to the plan, adding their voices to objections from members of the adjacent Temple Israel, one of the city's oldest Jewish congregations.
They say they can't imagine why the city thinks the historic locale is an appropriate setting for extreme sports. And they cringe at the thought of holding burials -- which still occur regularly -- while skateboarders ply their sport a few yards away."

Portland's bike culture is about as progressive as they get in America. Yet, the city's reputation only started to expand nationally following a 1996 master plan that jumpstarted the city’s bicycle infrastructure expansion.
