Supreme Court Decides Against Private Property Owners
18 June 2010 - 9:00am
The Supreme Court ruled for state power and against landowners in a landmark decision that will allow a beach-widening project to go forward without compensation.
The Washington Post reports that the court voted to reject a challenge by six homeowners in Florida's Panhandle who "argued that a beach-widening project changed their oceanfront property into oceanview."
The Court's decision nullified the homeowners' claim that this action was a taking and would require just compensation. It also took away the homeowners' rights to exclusive access to the beach.
