Small Town Relents in Epic Airport Battle

Bensenville, Illinois has been fighting an O'Hare airport expansion tooth and nail for decades. A new mayor signaled a change of heart (and a $16 million settlement).

"Settlement of the court battle clears the way for Chicago to begin bulldozing properties, possibly as soon as next month, city officials said.

Yet it remains unclear when the land would be needed by the airport for a proposed southern runway -- the final airstrip envisioned in Mayor Richard Daley's $15 billion expansion of O'Hare."
