Giving Developers A Break
1 November 2009 - 7:00am
The City of Wildomar, CA is considering cutting developer fees in half in order to spur the local economy.
"Mayor Scott Farnam and Councilwomen Bridgette Moore and Marsha Swanson said the step is necessary to jump-start the local economy and halt the dramatic rise in unemployment.
"What it is about is creating jobs," Farnam said. "If you have building activity going on, these will be local jobs, and these people will eat and shop in the area, and the rooftops they build will spur other retailers and activity in the area.""
Other councilpeople and residents reject the idea, worrying that the loss of infrastructure fees would further hurt the city.

The challenges of urban sprawl in outlying areas--like dangerous neighborhoods in the center city, and severe declines in jobs within reach of working people or inner city public schools--are rarely shared and never undertaken on a truly regional basis.
