Obama Administration Snubs Mayors
Representatives of the Obama Administration, including VP Biden, were set to be a part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors last week, but they cancelled their appearance so as not to cross a union picket line outside.
Neal Pierce says that the Obama Administration's policy of barring its officials from crossing union picket lines is a dangerous precedent. Mayors he spoke with were very disappointed.
"'We’re shocked,' said Thomas Cochran, Executive Director of the mayors association: 'Every time you go to one of these meetings, somebody is out in front protesting about this or that… We had high hopes for this administration. In a way, the White House has taken sides with the union against the mayors.'"
"The administration has clearly offended the mayors, among its top allies and potential collaborators."
