Students Design Alternate Housing For Katrina Victims
Auburn University Design/Build students design an inexpensive alternative for providing temporary housing after a disaster.
Design/Build Masters candidates in the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction at Auburn University show how transport cargo containers can be easily converted to temporary housing for individuals displaced from hurricane Katrina. The containers can be converted to living units for less than $3,000 dollars. In addition, the containers provide more protection than tents which are typically used in disaster relief.

For the most part, people will come up with their own housing with friends and family for the time being and He seems to state that it is better to get on with the task of permanent housing.
However, some do not have the friends and family network for private temporary housing. Even though tempoaray the ability to access a private, non-communal space is important.
