Provo Zoning Aids Affordability Says HUD
Overlays allowing granny flats and customized zoning for unique development situations meet needs, reduce excessive regulations, promote affordable housing.
"As Housing and Urban Development authorities scrutinize affordable-housing barriers nationwide, federal HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson commended two Provo zoning alternatives for encouraging affordable-housing development.""We know that regulatory barriers can increase housing costs by as much as 35 percent, making it impossible for many working families to live in the cities where we work," he announced for HUD's Affordable Communities Initiative. "Other communities around the country can learn from Provo City's efforts to open more doors for the very people who should be our neighbors."
