Support Sought For Sign Language Town
Despite concerns, majority of McCook County residents support the idea of a new town for signers.
"The developers are forging ahead with optimism, but some McCook County residents are split over whether to support the construction of a town for people who use sign language. Marvin Miller, a deaf man, helped his hearing mother-in-law, M.E. Barwacz, present information to about 150 people Monday night at McCook Central School. The Sioux Falls duo, originally from Michigan, are leading the effort to build a town called 'Laurent' along the interstate near one of the exits in the Salem area."
