What is RSS?

An RSS feed is basically a list of headlines in a format that can be read by a software program called a "news aggregator." News aggregators enable you to read headlines from dozens or even hundreds of news sites at one time. As a website with an RSS feed is updated, your news aggregator will display the new headlines and provide links to the new content. RSS is a form of XML (eXtensible Markup Language). The process of subscribing to a feed for each news aggregator is slightly different, so look for the help files that come with your aggregator. You may be able to copy the URL of the little orange "XML" logo next to the RSS feed you wish to read, and add it to your aggregator manually. It is likely that your aggregator comes with a few feeds by default. To subscribe to more RSS feeds, look for websites that carry the orange "XML" logo displayed above. The New York Times and The Christian Science Monitor are among the many prominent publications that publish RSS feeds.
