Virginia DOT Bound by New Law to Study Transportation Demand Management

A new requirement for the Virginia Department of Transportation took effect on July 1. The state's transportation planners and engineers now must study Transportation Demand Management as an approach to congestion management.

Virginia Interstate Widening Would Convert Free Lanes to Toll Lanes

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization is proposing a 45-mile network of high-occupancy toll lanes on I–64 that includes conversions of 16 miles of carpool and three miles of general-purpose lanes. No unpriced lanes would be added.

Virginia Legislators Agree to Fuel Taxes, not Tolls, to Fund I-81 Improvements

Motorists who purchase gas along the I-81 corridor will pay an additional 2.1 percent gas tax, about seven cents a gallon. Trucks, which disproportionately use the corridor, will see increases to registration fees and road and diesel taxes.
