An excellent opportunity to gain valuable training and work experience in planning or an office setting exists at the Community Development Department of the City of Camarillo. One part-time (no more than 20 hours per week), short-term position is available for a summer internship.

Under direct supervision, the intern will assist Community Development Department staff with general office work (copying, scanning, filing, typing, research, etc.), field work (measurements, site inspections, photography), application and plan reviews, preparation of reports and presentations, correspondence, greeting customers at the public counter, answering phones, and other duties as assigned. The position requires the possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Minimum age to drive a City vehicle is 18 years old. Candidates must be willing to work both indoors (office) and outdoors (site inspections).

Working knowledge of general office methods and procedures; office equipment operation; ability to correct punctuation and spelling; alphabetize or sort materials numerically/chronologically; ability to accurately file documents and conduct file research; receive the public in person or over the phone; ability to conduct research on the internet and perform basic calculations.

Minimum one year of college-level coursework completed. Must have good customer service skills and organizational skills.

Related college major (Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Public Policy). Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to use GIS to create maps.
