Description of Job/Position:
Under direction, the successful candidate will perform a variety of municipal professional planning activities including: site plan and subdivision reviews, pre-submission meetings with applicants, report writing, data collection, research, field studies, site investigations and expert testimony before Boards and public presentations; drafting of zoning ordinance amendments and other legislation, Master Plan updates, neighborhood planning studies; and preparation of maps, graphs and charts. Must possess knowledge of the NJ Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL) and the NJ Local Redevelopment and Housing Law (LRHL); knowledge of the statutory deadlines for review of Board applications; and knowledge of the statutory notice requirements for zoning variances, Area in Need of Redevelopment hearings and redevelopment plans.
Will provide work direction and lead supervision, including allotting duties, providing training, and assisting with reviewing work performance of clerical and junior planning staff; Performs other related duties as required; Must be able to work well with the public and attend evening meetings.
- Three (3) years of responsible professional experience with municipal planning and land use administration, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
- A Bachelor’s Degree with 21 credits in planning subjects; possession of a Master’s degree in Planning from an accredited college or university is highly desired.
- Possession of a valid and current New Jersey Professional Planners License issued by the NJ Board of Professional Planners is highly desired and is required for promotion or other appointment to the next higher level, Supervising Planner.
NOTE: Possession of a current and valid license as a Professional Planner issued by the NJ Board of Professional Planners may be substituted for the education requirement. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid New Jersey driver’s license. AA/EEO/ADA.
