Fauquier County is currently seeking a Senior Planner with a diverse land use planning skill set, knowledge of design and development principles, and the ability to manage a variety of projects. The County has long established planning philosophies of developing thriving mixed-use service districts; maintaining active agriculture and rural lands; preserving environmental and historic resources; and encouraging economic development. Planners are therefore involved in a great variety of challenging projects and cases.
This position within the Planning Division of the Department of Community Development will undertake a variety of professional planning work including assisting in the development of comprehensive plans and small area plans; reviewing land development applications and presenting them to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals; analyzing demographic and environmental information; and providing technical assistance.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field with a Master’s degree preferred; minimum 5 years of professional planning experience that includes long range planning; knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning; GIS analysis; ability to collect and analyze information and prepare reports; and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is desired.
Hiring range is $57,408 to $68,889 with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
