The Texas Community & Watershed Partners (TCWP) is growing, and our Houston-based, Texas A&M program is hiring two planners to join our team. New hires will be helping client communities become more resilient through effective risk mitigation, long-term community planning and public engagement. 

Plan Development and Planning Support: Professionally assist communities with planning efforts that address long-term issues about land use, resource management, economic development, hazard mitigation, and resiliency; apply specialized planning knowledge and experience to develop recommendations in partnership with client communities and stakeholders; utilize GIS and data to develop planning analyses; work with communities to align state and federal grant opportunities with local needs; create and draft community plan documents.

Planning Engagement with Communities: Work as part of a team to engage planning stakeholders and community members through effective facilitation; work with local decision-makers, community staff, and stakeholders; explain planning and technical subjects to a range of audiences, including non-technical audiences; utilize public input towards plan development; plan for and hold meetings and workshops; be an effective, clear communicator; be able to conduct intermittent, overnight travel to client communities.

Program coordination: Work with planning program team to coordinate program activities; think and be customer service oriented; be responsive with inquiries regarding technical assistance; develop and deliver planning program activities that support the program and client community goals;

Effective Team Member and Communicator: Maintain effective, positive, and collaborative relations within a multi-disciplinary project team and office;

Preferred experience: Master’s degree and 3 or more years of progressively advanced planning duties and responsibilities, ideally with AICP or CFM certification.
