Ideally situated in south Santa Clara County, 28 miles south of San Jose and 15 miles east of the Pacific Coastline, Gilroy is a thriving city of 55,000 residents, with a healthy economic base consisting of food processing, wine production and retail shopping outlets. 

The Deputy Director administers, plans, and directs the activities of the Building, Fire Prevention/Hazardous Materials, Housing and Community Development, Economic Development, and/or Environmental Services divisions as assigned by the Community Development Director. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who exhibits strong ‘common sense’ skills and considers customers to be part of the team to get their project approved and constructed. An open communicator who provides a consistent message and possesses both humility and humor will find success in this role. 

A Bachelor's degree; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a related public sector position to include experience in at least three of the following areas: building, plan check, inspection, current planning, long range planning, economic development, waste water pretreatment, fire prevention, hazardous materials, environmental services, community development block grant programs, and/or housing trust administration; and, at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory level position are expected. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
