Fauquier County has an immediate opening for an experienced planner with a diverse land use planning skill set, knowledge of design and development principles and the ability to manage a variety of complex projects. Located in the Virginia Piedmont, the County has a long established planning philosophy of developing thriving service districts surrounded by active agriculture. The County also seeks to preserve environmental and historic resources while encouraging economic development. Planners are therefore involved in a great variety of challenging cases and projects.
This position is within the Planning Division of the Department of Community Development, and will be responsible for overseeing long range planning studies, updates to the County’s Comprehensive Plan and various legislative applications. The Principal Planner will represent the County on planning matters and present reports to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. The qualified candidate will have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, experience in place-making and community design, as well as a foundational understanding of regional planning, urban design, land development practices and rural land use issues. The Principal Planner is expected to be a strong project manager and have the ability to process complex development applications, Comprehensive Plan updates and/or Zoning Ordinance amendments.
Hiring range is from $57,388.50 to $74,646.00 with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
