DUTIES

Under the direction of the Community Development Director, perform professional level duties and responsibilities in the development, implementation and modifications of City plans and regulations; provide public assistance, planning and development services, and liaison to other organizations, agencies, consultants, and developers; perform planning and development review of processes and development sites to ensure compliance with all requirements; provide recommendations on development proposals; assist in the preparation of grant proposals and applications for state and federal funds; participate in code administrations; interpret City ordinances, zoning and development codes regarding community development; conduct field site inspections; assist with planning studies; compile and analyze statistical and descriptive data; prepare tables, graphs and narratives; attend and participate in professional group meetings; serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions and committees involved in the development, adoption, and implementation of City plans and planning regulations; and perform a variety of duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning or a related field and one year of increasingly responsible urban planning and zoning experience.Knowledge of:operations, services and activities of a community planning and development program; general principles and practices of urban planning, zoning and development; recent developments related to municipal planning and administration; report preparation and presentation; methods and techniques of eliciting community participation in planning and development issues. Knowledge of urban design principles and use of design programs preferred.  Ability to:perform professional level duties in the development, implementation and modification of city plans and regulations; interpret, apply and explain pertinent Federal, State and local laws, grant programs, codes and regulations; process routine development applications and coordinate necessary communication between staff, developer, and other agencies; analyze site design, terrain constraints, circulations, land use compatibility, utilities and other urban services; utilize specialized computer applications applicable to planning design and review; present data to a variety of boards and commissions.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for prolonged periods.  The employee is regularly required to see, hear, talk, stand, twist and use repetitive motions in the conduct of work. The employee is also required to perform light lifting.
