Powhatan County is a growing locality on the edge of the greater Richmond region. With a population of just over 30,000, it features a mix of natural land, farms, residential, suburban neighborhoods, business parks and industrial areas. The office is located in the charming Village area, which features several restaurants, distillery and an independent café within walking distance.
Depending on qualifications, the position may be filled as either a Planner I or II. The position gets to work with an interesting mix of development types. There is a strong focus from the Board of Supervisors and citizens on quality development, through its design, architecture and landscaping. Powhatan is a financially well-run locality, with the highest achievable bond rating. The applicant, reporting to the Planning Director, will work with site plans, permits, rezonings and conditional use permits, preparing Planning Commission documents, ordinance and comp plan updates among other various planning duties.
