The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of Planning Manager. The Planning Manager is part of the Community Development Department and is an important member of the Department's leadership team. The Planning Manager, reporting to the Assistant Community Development Director, is responsible for planning, organizing and managing the activities and operations of the planning work program which includes development and implementation of multiple current and long-range planning programs, including a comprehensive update to the General Plan. These programs currently include zoning, land use, environmental review, design review, and related municipal plans and policies of the City. The Planning Manager also, serves as technical advisor to the Planning Commission, Design Review Committee and Historic Preservation Committee.

Salary and Benefits

The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefits! Salary:  $110,631 - $148,248 Annually DOQ.


A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, business, economics, architecture, environmental studies, public administration, engineering or a related field and five years of professional planning experience with at least two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility for a major planning function. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • Certificate: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is desirable.
