The ideal candidate will be an action-oriented leader with a history of notable achievements, including experience in managing complex projects and programs including General Plan/Zoning Code amendments, affordable housing projects and short-term rental licensing/enforcement. The City is in the beginning phase of updating its Local Coastal Program which, when complete, will help shape the City's future for decades. The Planning Manager will play a key support role in this effort.

The individual will manage the day to day operations of the Planning Division and will, occasionally, serve as the Acting Community Development Director. The ideal candidate will be an effective and engaged mentor with a consistent history of investing in the development and continuous growth of his/her staff. The Planning Manager must be an exceptional communicator and have the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Under general direction, plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of professional, technical, and administrative staff performing difficult and complex professional and technical support related to all programs and activities of the Planning Division, including current and advance planning and preparing environmental reviews; manages the effective use of the City's planning resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service; provides highly complex and responsible support to the Community Development Director, City Council, Planning Commission, City advisory commissions and committees, and others in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.
