The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC) serves a nine county region (Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates Counties) in central-western New York State.
G/FLRPC is seeking a Planner to support the work of the Regional Planning Council. The three main program components at G/FLRPC are Economic Development, Regional, Local & Water Resources Planning, and the Data, Technology & Resource Center. G/FLRPC also serves as the regional Clean Energy Communities coordinator. This position will support planning efforts in most, if not all, program components and may include geographic information systems, IT support, socio-economic and demographic data, and Census related projects. General professional planning support is required. Familiarity with software such as GIS, Microsoft Office Suite, general data visualization, and Adobe creative suite is preferred. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Interpersonal, organizational, presentation, writing, computer, and team skills required.

Brief Description of Agency: (Mission Statement) G/FLRPC will identify, define, and inform its member counties of issues and opportunities critical to the physical, economic, and social health of the region. G/FLRPC will provide forums for discussion, debate, and consensus building, and develop and implement a focused action plan with clearly defined outcomes, which include programs, personnel, and funding.
The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council three main program areas including Economic Development, Regional, Local & Water Resources Planning, and the Data, Technology & Resource Center and is the regional coordinator for the Clean Energy Communities program. Programs and projects associated with the Economic Development area include the regional federal Economic Development District along with regional economic development coordination, revolving loan funds, strategic planning, development planning, and impact analysis. Programs and projects associated with the Regional, Local & Water Resources Planning area include water resources planning (such as watershed, groundwater, source water, floodplain, green infrastructure, and stormwater); land use planning; municipal and strategic planning; hazard mitigation planning; resiliency; and training/workshops/conference development and coordination. Programs and projects associated with the Data, Technology & Resource Center area include demographic and socio-economic data development and analysis; dissemination of data through the New York State Data Center and US Census Bureau Affiliate Programs; working on the Local Update of Census Addresses program and associated programs to update the Census Master Address File; remote sensing; and a full service geographic information system.
