Description: Founded in 2002, McCool Development Solutions (MDS) is a planning and landscape architecture firm located in Denver, Colorado specializing in providing municipal planning and design services to small and mid-sized communities across the State.  We have an immediate opening for a Senior Planner/Urban Designer that encompasses comprehensive planning, downtown revitalization, urban design, community engagement, development review, and land use code updates.  The ideal candidate to join our small, fun, innovative, and multifaceted firm must demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach to achieve vibrant, livable, and economically successful and ecologically sound downtowns and communities.  

Candidates must also have experience in managing and juggling a variety of diverse projects, and in interacting with clients. Responsibilities will include (not intended to be all-inclusive description): community engagement, creation and preparation of graphics and presentations, general master planning including policy and implementation, graphic design; writing documents and staff reports; research and analysis for land use and related topics, overseeing multidisciplinary teams of professionals; serving as project manager for various municipal clients relating to development review, land use code and design guideline/standards updates, Board/Commission training, presentations, and implementation.  Additional responsibilities will include assisting principals and other staff members in the development of client proposals, creating presentations, and conducting business development activities consistent with maintaining and growing our Statewide presence. Exemplary writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people, is a must.  Business travel includes travel to clients for on-site meetings with town/city staff, Planning Commission and Town Board/City Council during evening hours.

The ideal candidate shall have excellent design skills, and be highly proficient in Sketch-Up, Adobe Suite, or other graphic programs as well as be proficient with computer hardware and software programs including Microsoft Office, internet applications, and database management.   We are seeking an extremely motivated, enthusiastic, creative, team member that can think pro-actively and to work both self-directed and in interdisciplinary teams.

Education: Bachelors Degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or related field.  Master’s Degree in planning or related field and ACIP certification is highly desirable.

Experience: At least seven (7) years of experience in both urban design consulting and supervisory experience in municipal planning.   Development review experience in small to mid-size communities or at least three (3) years planning experience with a municipality is preferred. 

Additional Requirements: Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain one and have reliable transportation.
