Iraq War's 'Profound' Impact On U.S. States And Cities

The Iraq War and homeland security concerns are expected to strain the budgets of cash-strapped U.S. states and cities.
"The U.S. led-war on Iraq will have a profound effect on U.S. state and local governments...The country's slow recovery from the 2001 economic recession and the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington that year have helped tip states into their worst fiscal crisis since World War Two...States could find even core federal programs for transportation and health care being drained to fund an extended war effort, analysts said."
