Gas-Guzzling Continues Despite High Gas Prices

The stagnant economy, the Iraq war, and other factors have caused gas prices to rise. But that hasn't deterred drivers.

"With gas prices at all-time highs, motorists are confounding analysts by continuing their gas-guzzling ways...But consumer demand for gas hasn't dropped -- even at a time of year when chilly weather tends to discourage traveling... The start of war in Iraq, a stagnant U.S. economy, a strike affecting the Venezuelan oil market, a colder-than-normal winter in the Northeast and other factors have pushed oil prices higher."
