A Planner Tries The Segway
17 March 2003 - 5:00am
A land-use planner uses the Segway to make a statement.
"Will this nonpolluting alternative mode of transportation prove too controversial to last? The Segways, which reach a modest 12 mph, have run into opposition from blind and disabled folks who fear being crowded or knocked off the sidewalks. San Francisco already has banned them from its sidewalks. A San Diego City Council committee has listened to the concerns of both bicyclists and disabled persons but, for now, city leaders have adopted a wait-and-see attitude."
