Reverse Commuting Picks Up Speed

The nation's commuting patterns are getting more complex.
"Reverse commuters as a whole make up a growing proportion of city residents. A full quarter of Philadelphia's workers commute to jobs outside the city, up from 15 percent two decades ago, according to 2000 census data released today. ....Philadelphia's reverse commute is one of several long-term regional trends: The biggest job center continues to decline, the suburban population continues to spread out, and the typical resident continues to spend more and more time in traffic."
