The world needs safeguards to protect the environment from ravages of war.
"Oil wells set ablaze in the 1991 war in the Gulf...had given rise to estimates that the soot released had increased death rates in Kuwait by 10% over the following year...Landmines in former conflict areas like Afghanistan, Cambodia, Bosnia and parts of Africa...placed productive land out of bounds, forcing people to clear forests and other sensitive areas."
