Convention Center Expansion Raises Issues About Takings
5 February 2003 - 2:00pm
Owners of property in New Orleans expropriated by the state for the expansion of a convention center may sue for compensation.
"The owners of two historic warehouses along Tchoupitoulas Street must surrender their property to the state to make way for expansion of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, a Civil District Court judge ruled last week. Expected to help defend the owners in the compensation phase of the trial is lawyer Johnnie Cochran, best known for working on the defense team that won O.J. Simpson's acquittal on a murder charge in 1995."
