Florida Governor May Ask Voters To Shoot Down Bullet Train
16 January 2003 - 1:00pm
Florida Governor Jeb Bush may ask voters to abandon a high-speed train plan if the project requires too much public money.
"Governor Bush said Floridians who endorsed the high-speed rail idea on the November 2000 ballot likely were influenced by memories of childhood train sets and the romance of rail. In the weeks before the election, rail backers rolled out a series of ads showing a sleek train whizzing across the state. But with the state facing its deepest budget crisis in a decade, Bush said it might be time to shelve the train idea."
