Alabama Losing Its Legacy

Alabama has lost more species than any other state in the continental United States, mostly owing to human impacts.
"When it comes to an abundance of plant and animal species, Alabama is the Eden of America. But not all is well in paradise. More species are threatened with extinction in Alabama than just about anywhere in the country, and man is usually to blame... Alabama has another distinction that is less glamorous. It has had more species that have become extinct than any state in the continental United States."
