The tough task of removing bus stops to speed up travel times is on the table in Washington, D.C.
"The District Department of Transportation is looking to remove eight bus stops on 16th Street NW in an effort to speed up commutes for public transit users along the corridor," reports Andrew Ramonas. The changes would affect the S1, S2 and S4 lines.
The proposal in Washington, D.C. is the latest of a string of transit agencies considering the stop consolidation to speed up buses. Los Angeles and Portland have also floated similar proposals in recent months.
According to Ramonas, the proposal has met resistance from residents along the lines in question. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will review the still very speculative proposal before any changes are approved.
