Futurist Architect Honored
7 October 2002 - 2:00pm
Paolo Soleri, best known for his visionary, mixed-use design of Arcosanti, is honored at an opening exhibit of his works in Arizona.
"Soleri is best known for his project Arcosanti, a 25-acre prototype town of 7,000 he designed that blends arcology, a combination of architecture and ecology. Soleri envisions a compact community that maximizes land and other resources, the opposite of urban sprawl. Residents would be able to walk where they needed, rather than depend on the automobile, he said. Arcosanti has been under construction for 32 years near Cordes Junction."

“
Its very unsuitability for an urban center justifies its current usage as a suburban or ex-urban pattern.
