Housing Legacy Of Hurricane Andrew

Hurricane Andrew's impact on south Miami-Dade County a decade ago is still being felt in the housing market.
"But the storm's greatest financial impact has been on stringent new building codes for new homes and renovations of existing homes. For example, new construction must include hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows.The tougher safeguards, which came in 1994 and in a new statewide building code this year, have added as much as $20,000 to the cost of a new home."
