War Stories From A Houston Pedestrian

Houston has done well facilitating pedestrian access in commercial areas -- but don't try to walk between neighborhoods.
"My wife and I decided we'd get some exercise by walking a few miles down the road to a local bookstore... it was like a scene from Apocalypse Now; negotiating muddy, steeply inclined ditches... That struggling sally taught us an important lesson about our beloved hometown: Houston may be the least pedestrian-friendly city in North America."
