Changes In 'Wal-mart's Backyard'

The hometown of Sam Walton's "Wal-mart" is the six fastest-growing metro area in the nation.
"As the migration has accelerated, the newcomers have caused a decided shift here to the upscale: to gated neighborhoods with names like Avignon, to restaurants serving sushi, to specialty stores and gourmet shops that are clearly worlds apart from Wal-Mart. It is the kind of thing that runs counter to the mentality held by the folksy Mr. Sam, who died in 1992."
