Three Detroit Housing Officials Fired
7 August 2002 - 4:00am
The top three officials of the Detroit Housing Commission have been ousted by Mayor Kilpatrick.
"Executive Director John Nelson Jr., his deputy John Hurt and finance director Patricia Bobo were ushered out of the commission's headquarters Friday as Detroit police looked on. Kilpatrick spokesman Jamaine Dickens said Monday it is the administration's policy to have police escort top officials out when they are dismissed... From 1979 to 1997, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officials faulted the commission for, among other things, having vacant and dilapidated properties and failing to collect past-due rent payments."
