Mexico Abandons Unpopular Airport Plan

In response to violent protests by farmers, the Mexican Government has dropped plans to build a new international airport on farmland near the capital, Mexico City, and will look for alternative locations.
"The $2.3bn airport - the largest public project announced since President Vicente Fox took office nearly two years ago - would have eaten up about 4,000 hectares (10,000 acres) of land in 13 villages.The cancellation comes three weeks after violent clashes between police and farmers opposed to the plan. "
