Newer churches in Canadan are larger and less ornate and adopt a "participatory method" of church design.
"The churches built since the 1960s are larger and less ornate; interior design of worship spaces has been altered, too...Diminishing numbers of priests mean larger churches are needed to accommodate more parishioners attending Catholic Masses. Add to that the classrooms, meeting rooms and other ancillary buildings required at sites such as this -- which are regarded not only as churches, but also as community centres -- and a parish's budget is stretched considerably."
