Join the next generation of urban pioneers. Georgetown University’s Master of Professional Studies in Urban & Regional Planning transforms students in to visionary leaders, teaching them how to successfully integrate urban design with community development to create more livable neighborhoods, cities,and regions. Featuring a practical and applied curriculum, the program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on urban planning experience in Washington, D.C.—one of the most dynamic urban laboratories in the world.Students learn from a faculty of leading academics and professionals while building their expertise across the broad spectrum of urban planning,including economic development, land use, urban form, housing, culture, transportation, energy,and environment.

Program Features:

  • Integration of interdisciplinary tools,such as geographic information system (GIS) mapping, statistical analysis,and research methodologies, which help students better understand the needs and patterns of a city or region.
  • Practical urban planning work through the program’s unique City Lab field experiences, which enable students to tackle real-world urban planning problems and work side-by-side with partner planning offices throughout the National Capital Region.
  • Exposure to the full range of critical theories, laws, and practices of urban planning.
  • A faculty of expert practitioners, who bring their experience and expertise directly into the classroom to teach students about current industry trends and how the concepts taught in the classroom apply to issues faced on the job.
  • Focused concentrations in specialized urban planning areas of study, including Urban Design & Land Use; Housing, Community, & Economic Development; and International Development.
  • Access to a broad global network to facilitate career opportunities, mentoring, and partner resources to help budding urban planners build their connections and pursue rewarding careers.
  • Classes that are generally held during the evenings to maximize flexibility and minimize career interruptions.
