Wal-Mart Cancels Denver Store Plan

Wal-Mart announced it is no longer interested in replacing a thriving community hub with a store after small business owners protested.
"Wal-Mart retreated Tuesday from plans to construct a $33 million store in west Denver, backing down from a fight with Asian merchants who occupy the site. Wal-Mart's exit doesn't necessarily mean a happy ending for merchants...Denver development officials were quietly drafting a proposal this spring that would have bulldozed Alameda Square Shopping Center...and replaced it with a Supercenter grocery and discount store.The Alameda Square merchants who revived the center in recent years into a thriving community center protested..."
