Atlanta Leaders Take Away Lessons From Chicago

Georgia officials hope that Chicago's successes can serve as a road map to improving the quality of life in metro Atlanta.
Though Atlanta and Chicago share many traits, the two cities are on different ends of the urban spectrum. Chicago's growth followed the the Daniel Burnham Plan of 1909, while metro Atlanta followed the Southern California model of freeways and low density sprawl. Now, city leaders in Atlanta are looking to Chicago and Mayor Richard Daley as they begin to tackle transportion, downtown revitalization, ailing urban schools and other urban quality of life issues that have plagued the region.
