New Philadelphia-Reading Railroad Could Save Centers

The Schuylkill Valley Metro could create the conditions necessary to reviving older cities and towns along the river between Philadelphia and Reading.
Transportation infrastructure is second only to defense contracting in terms of Americans' willingness to spend public money freely. It is the big-ticket item in direct federal spending in local economies and yet attracts far too little attention. The Valley Metro could give places like Phoenixville and Norristown a chance to develop into high-density, high-amenity places that people want to visit and live in.
