California Infrastructure Crisis Looms

Airport development and expansion is on hold after 9/11, even though air travel is increasing rapidly.

"Passenger traffic is picking up again, but as it regains momentum, plans for new or expanded airports to serve California have stalled, and given the long time frame for such projects, it could create a big air traffic jam within a few years.While the looming airport crunch isn't as apparent to most Californians as other infrastructure deficiencies, state and local planners see the day -- in the not-too-distant future -- when the number of flights available in the state will be, in effect, rationed."
