17 May 2002 - 10:00am
Construction has begun on a cable crossing the Long Island Sound that critics say won't address electicity concerns and will cause grave environmental damage.
"Amid high winds and a lingering political squall, crews Wednesday began laying a 24-mile electric cable across the bottom of Long Island Sound.Reflecting the wrenching political battle that the cable project provoked, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal filed a 32-page brief in New Britain Superior Court Wednesday challenging the January approval of the project by the Connecticut Siting Council."
