L.A.'s Transition From Suburban To Urban

This commentator's view is that the planning issues in L.A. now revolve around how, not whether, to accommodate increased population density.

L.A. presents perhaps the greatest challenge to "smart growth" concepts in the country. But despite its history of sprawl, the city is one of the densest in the U.S. and the debate over growth has moved beyond the classic yes-or-no questions to seeking workable solutions to increases in population and threats to quality of life.
