Study Says Urban Life Safer Than Rural

"William H. Lucy, Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning, studied 8 urban areas for 3 to 4 years to test theories that dictate where people live and how they decide what is safe. While raw statistics supported the commonly held theory that risk of homicide is higher in cities, when fatal traffic accidents were factored in, statistics showed life was actually more dangerous for rural residents. Lucy said he was inspired to do the study by his dislike of sprawl."
