X-Rated Shops Moving To Suburbs

As rents in revitalized downtown areas increases, adult businesses are being forced out to the suburbs.
"'As land values have risen downtown, porn shops have basically been pushed out and have had to find secondary locations,'" said Michael Beyard, a senior fellow at the Urban Land Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based real estate education and research organization. "Suburban strip malls, because of their low rent, have become favored locations."Barbara Lukermann, a land-use planning expert and senior fellow at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute, said adult-oriented businesses seek out cities that don't have restrictive ordinances."
